Welcome to the realm of Transformative Design, where creativity meets purpose to catalyze positive change. In collaboration with Endringslaben (The Change Lab), we embarked on a transformative design project focused on enhancing teachers' access to sustainability resources while inspiring action among children towards a more sustainable future. The result? An innovative interactive installation designed to provide children with a profound understanding of electricity within the context of society.
Transformative design transcends traditional design thinking by empowering designers to tackle complex societal challenges. It goes beyond merely optimizing products and services, urging designers to address wicked problems and create solutions that drive transformative change. Some powerful methods employed in this process are Emergent Design, Experiential Futures and Backcasting.
In this project I did project management, user research, interviewing, analysis, ideation and prototyping, evaluation, programming, laser cutting, and developing and assembling the electronics of the game.

Our installation comprises three essential elements:
The Power Plant - A tangible game that visualizes the concept of electricity in society, engaging children in immersive learning experiences and encouraging collaboration. Through this playful interaction, children discover how electricity is generated and distributed, while also learning about the various consequences of different energy production methods and distribution practices on sustainability, in addition to the value of collaboration.
Info Posters - Informative posters contextualizing the game and its theme, bridging the interactive experience with a broader perspective. By illustrating how children can actively participate in democracy and contribute to positive change, these posters reinforce the importance of sustainability education.
Question Sheets - Designed to encourage active engagement and critical thinking, these question sheets prompt children to seek information within the installation. By answering the questions during their visit, children actively explore and understand the concepts, fostering a deeper grasp of the subject matter. These questions can also be discussed collectively at the end of the installation visit.
